Research Info Received: I received a letter from Alice
Utterback, Fred's wife. She states that Fred was in
the 6th Marines 6th Amphibious Co.. He served from 9
Nov 1943 to 14 Feb 1946. On Easter Morning in 1945,
Fred landed in the first wave in the battle for Okinawa.
Fred was also present at the surrender of Japanese forces in
China. This took place on 25 Oct 1945 near Tsingtao,
China. Alice believes that the flag was probably
signed at the surrender ceremony as only a few Marines from
Fred's company were dispatched to China. |
